Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) works with clients on a global scale designing solutions for renewable energy (solar/wind/battery storage), Generation Interconnection, Transmission Planning, Distribution Planning, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and Smart Grids.

How you can make an impact:

The Public Policy Intern – will support research and analysis at the intersection of public policy and EPE’s work in the electric power sector, with a focus on distributed energy resources (DER), grid reliability, and resilience.

 

Projects and tasks may include:

  • Conduct research on state and federal public policy developments related to DER, reliability, and resilience.
  • Explore how EPE’s technical and advisory work can align with and support public policy objectives at the state and federal level.
  • Analyze policy frameworks related to DER value, including how DER can support reliability, resilience, and broader grid outcomes.
  • Help identify and assess a focused set of states for deeper policy analysis based on market relevance, regulatory activity, and alignment with EPE’s capabilities.
  • Support development of a recommended framework for narrowing and prioritizing states for future public policy engagement efforts.
  • Summarize legislation, regulatory proceedings, policy proposals, and agency activities relevant to DER and utility sector transformation.
  • Track themes and trends across selected states and federal policy activity and prepare concise internal summaries.

 

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • Current enrollment in, a bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degree program in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics, Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in energy policy, utility regulation, distributed energy resources, or grid modernization.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex policy and regulatory information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher

  

Location

  • Internship is up to 20 hours a week.

  • This position will be in person at one of the following locations: Preferred Austin, TX
