We are seeking a seasoned Principal with a background in North American electricity markets. In this role you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and provide subject matter expertise both internally through coaching and developing staff as well as externally to our clients. You will support the delivery of projects, organize the work and manage client interaction.

Responsibilities

How you can make an impact:

  • Lead and execute economic transmission planning studies to support grid planning, congestion mitigation, market efficiency, and transmission investment objectives for utilities and ISOs/RTOs.
  • Perform and oversee projects involving production cost modeling, capacity expansion analysis, resource adequacy analysis, and transmission project economic evaluations.
  • Develop study assumptions, scenarios, and sensitivities reflecting load growth, resource mix evolution, public policy drivers, and market design changes.
  • Interpret modeling results and translate complex technical findings into clear insights, recommendations, and client-ready deliverables, including reports and presentations.
  • Serve as a technical lead, guiding utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and other stakeholders through planning studies and processes.
  • Oversee project timelines, ensuring completion on schedule, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
  • Review work performed by team members to ensure technical quality, consistency and best practices.
  • Build strong relationships and contribute to client management, sales and business development activities.
  • Contribute to proposal development, project scoping, and thought leadership related to economic transmission planning and market analysis.
  • Coordinate across internal disciplines (e.g., transmission planning, reliability, market design) to deliver integrated planning solutions.
  • Manage, coach, develop, and review performance of engineers, analysts and other staff

 

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in economic transmission planning, market analysis, or system planning within a utility, ISO/RTO, or consulting environment.
  • Strong experience with electric production cost modeling tools such as PLEXOS, PROMOD, UPLAN, or any software with similar functionality and purpose.
  • Strong background in market optimization, market structures, and transmission planning frameworks across ISO/RTOs (e.g., PJM, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO, IESO, AESO), including familiarity with applicable tariffs and stakeholder processes.
  • Proven team player skills with ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to producing high-quality report and deliverables, taking full ownership and pride in work
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, collaborate across teams, and mentor junior staff.

 

Preferred

  • Experience supporting or interfacing with resource adequacy analyses, such as planning reserve margins, capacity accreditation (e.g., ELCC), seasonal or probabilistic adequacy frameworks, and their interaction with transmission planning.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis software such as PSS/E, TARA, Powerworld, ASPEN Oneliner, etc.
  • Knowledge of FERC transmission planning and cost allocation, and evolving market and planning requirements.

Location: This position will be remote US

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
