In this role, you will support a wide range of projects for our diverse client portfolio, playing a key part in shaping the grid of the future. You’ll provide expert consulting services focused on distribution system modeling and analysis, always with a client-centered mindset. Your work will directly support clients by helping them make informed, data-driven decisions that align with the evolving energy landscape.

 

In this role, your contributions will include, but are not limited to, development and completion of reports, presentations, technical trainings, distribution planning studies, distributed energy resource (DER) system impact analyses, short circuit and protection coordination studies, generation interconnection application review, system design studies, cost-benefit analysis, and alternatives analysis.

 

 

Responsibilities

How you can make an impact:

  • Perform distribution planning studies including DER interconnection studies, load addition studies, voltage optimization, volt-var and smart inverter studies, contingency analyses, and N-1 studies.
  • Identify expected system impacts from the interconnection of distributed energy resource technologies and determine appropriate cost-effective mitigation measures.
  • Perform technical reviews for distribution planning studies performed by other engineering staff and provide feedback and ensure high quality deliverables.
  • Perform research and analysis related to DER, distribution automation, voltage optimization, electric vehicles, conservation voltage reduction, automated circuit restoration, and other emerging technologies.
  • Provide technical advisory services especially for distribution engineering practices, processes, and technologies, and distributed energy resources.
  • Prepare and troubleshooting of system models and technical reports.
  • Communicate with clients and ensure client expectations are met and managed properly.
  • Process, generate, and maintain data as required for other engineering related studies.
  • Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
  • Assist in developing tools, templates, processes, and procedures that enhance engineering study completion.

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 1-3+ years of experience related to distribution planning and power systems analysis for utilities (i.e., electric cooperatives, municipalities, investor-owned utilities, research lab, etc.).
  • Distribution modeling software experience with at least one software platform such as CYME, Synergi Electric, ETAP, ASPEN, openDSS, etc.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence by producing high-quality reports and deliverables.
  • Strong technical skills and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly with respect to explaining technical matters as it relates to distribution systems.
  • Flexible with the ability to manage change and adapt to new challenges.

 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • Master's degree or higher
  • Programming and automating experience with Python, Java, or C++

Location: This position is remote US or Canada

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
