The Senior Engineering Manager oversees the design, development, and execution of substation and transmission projects as well as the Owner’s Engineering services. This role involves managing a team of engineers and technical staff, coordinating with stakeholders, ensuring compliance with industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC), and delivering projects on time and within budget. The manager plays a key role in resource planning, technical reviews, and continuous process improvement to support utility, industrial, or renewable clients

 

How you can make an impact:

  • Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists, ensuring the effective execution of owner’s engineering and design tasks while meeting project deadlines and maintaining high standards of quality and budget adherence.

  • Manage the engineering scope of substation and transmission projects from conceptual design through detailed engineering and construction support.

  • Ensure that all deliverables (SLDs, schematics, layouts, BOMs, etc.) meet technical and quality standards.

  • Review and approve substation engineering designs, including physical and protection & control aspects (HV/MV/LV).

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the client and the engineering team, ensuring clear, consistent communication and alignment on project goals and objectives. Actively engage with clients to solicit feedback, address concerns, and adapt project scopes as needed to meet their evolving needs.

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and implement effective mitigation strategies to proactively address potential project challenges, minimizing impacts on project delivery.

  • Mentor and support the professional growth of engineering staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, technical excellence, and collaborative learning.

  • Lead initiatives to enhance organizational efficiency by identifying and implementing process improvements aimed at maximizing team capacity while maintaining the quality and timeliness of client deliverables

    Contribute to business development efforts by assisting in the preparation of RFP responses and crafting detailed scope of work statements. Clearly define EPE deliverables and project timelines, positioning the organization for successful client engagements.

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Electrical Engineering with a power system emphasis. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum ten years of experience in the power system industry, with at least three years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven knowledge of power systems, particularly regarding substations and transmissions
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated experience explaining complex technical concepts related to substations
  • Commitment to high standards for producing quality reports and deliverables, taking ownership and pride in outcomes.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

Location: This position is Fully Remote in the US or Canada

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
