EPE is searching for a Principal Power System Engineer to join our growing Transmission Planning Utilities Team. In this role you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and provide subject matter expertise. How you can make an impact:

 

Technical Duties

  • Track record of successfully delivering generator interconnection or transmission planning projects across multiple ISOs/RTOs and/or Utilities
  • Provide technical insights and support in complex initiatives driving policies in the industry
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on transmission planning studies by leading and conducting analyses related to load flow, transient stability and short circuit
  • Passionate about solving difficult technical problems, providing innovative solutions and taking ownership of the solutions provided
  • Identify optimal strategy for project interconnection to the grid based on system impacts and grid capacity
  • Collaborate with other teams within EPE to provide strategic guidance on market trends and process change across multiple ISO’s, in particular SPP and MISO
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory agencies
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, market innovations, and best practices in the energy industry to enhance the organization's offerings and capabilities
  • Advise on technical software strategy and IP development
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned

Leadership Duties

  • Build on EPE's existing generator interconnection and planning studies capabilities and help develop EPE's expansion strategy for the Transmission Planning Utilities team
  • Build confidence with senior and executive management within client organizations and assist in other sales and business development activities
  • Ensure effective project staffing, resource utilization, and staff training/development
  • Ensure that deliverables generated by the Power Systems Engineer(s) assigned to a project is prepared, checked, and approved in accordance with EPE's quality management standards and without errors
  • Take responsibility for the timely completion of assigned projects while meeting all project quality and budget objectives
  • Interact with clients to seek input and address their needs and concerns regarding the project(s) under study
  • Prepare responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) by providing a scope of work and time estimates for new projects
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members to build a strong and knowledgeable team
  • Assist in the development of marketing and business development strategies for the organization's energy resources services
  • Participate in industry conferences, seminars, and workshops to stay informed about new developments in the interconnection industry and network with other professionals in the field

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field (a Master's or PhD degree is preferred)

  • 8 to 10 years of experience in the electric energy industry, generator modelling, transmission planning and interconnection studies is preferred

  • Solid background in power flow, optimal power flow, transient stability

  • In-depth knowledge of at least one but preferably several of the following software packages: PSSE, TARA, PSLF, ASPEN, DSATools, PSCAD

  • Knowledge of SPP and MISO footprints

  • Proven ability to evaluate new utility tariffs and study methodologies

  • Automation experience (Python, C#, SQL) would be looked upon favorably

  • Competency in analytical problem-solving, strong communication, and technology expertise

Location: This position is open to REmote US or Canada

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
