Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) is seeking Staff Engineer I or II to join our expanding Energy Market Analysis team. In this role, you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and contribute your subject matter expertise. How you can make an impact:

 

  • Perform comprehensive analyses of congestion and basis risks for potential and existing projects, with a focus on long-term regional transmission planning and development.
  • Conduct financial, commercial, and engineering due diligence, including assessments of project operations, grid connections, market revenues, and contract provisions.
  • Analyze transmission load flow and Location Marginal Price (LMP) to provide valuable insights.
  • Develop strategies for selecting new project sites, ensuring adequate transmission availability for project competitiveness.
  • Offer expertise and analytical support on transmission and interconnection issues.
  • Provide technical insights throughout project development, interconnection, and operation phases.
  • Evaluate grid interconnection for due diligence activities, considering LMP, congestion risk, curtailment risks, and more.
  • Analyze, forecast, and provide guidance on Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), forward prices, transmission congestion, curtailments, and LMP basis price spread.
  • Collaborate with other EPE teams to provide strategic guidance on market trends, regulatory changes, and investment opportunities.
  • Monitor and analyze market data and trends to identify potential risks and opportunities.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies, market innovations, and best practices in the energy industry.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
  • 1-5 years of experience in the electric energy industry, preferably with experience in power flow modeling, transmission planning, interconnection studies, and SCED analysis.
  • Solid background in power system optimization and a deep understanding of optimization modeling outcomes.
  • Extensive knowledge of programming in Python, R, and MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with PJM, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and/or CAISO markets.
  • Ability to evaluate new energy markets, utility tariffs, policies, and power contracts.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

 

 

Location: This position will be located in Panama

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
