The Director of Distribution Planning and Grid Modernization position will be a key leader in EPE’s engineering organization and will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of strategic initiatives with respect to distribution planning principles, grid modernization solutions, and technologies that support electric distribution system engineering, design, and operations across various utility clients. This position will lead a world class team of engineers working directly on utility client solutions and programs. It will include working closely with other EPE business unit leaders to develop and provide business solutions to EPE’s utility clients. The Director will also support business development activities for existing and potential EPE utility clients.  Responsibilities will also include engaging with external counterparts, partners, and stakeholders to ensure that EPE is leveraging and contributing to industry best practices.  

 

 

 

How you can make an impact:

 

  • Act as an SME supporting distribution planning and grid modernization efforts including:
  • Oversee, manage, and lead a team of managers and engineers to ensure successful delivery and execution of utility client projects.
  • Oversee, control, and report on distribution planning and grid modernization line of business financial performance, operational performance, and quality of utility project deliverables, including monthly line of business revenue & forecasts, staff utilization, efficiencies, and business development activities and forecasts.
  • Develop strategies to grow and enhance EPE’s service offerings and impact on the industry.
  • Oversee, maintain, and grow client relationships.
  • Oversee, manage, and contribute to the line of business technical proposals and bid responses to client projects and initiatives.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing utility client planning principles and grid modernization capabilities.
  • Oversee and direct the development of project plans, implementation, execution, and delivery of utility client projects and strategic initiatives (scope, schedule, and budget). Identify and mitigate risks to successful project completion.
  • Recommend hiring and resource strategies to sustain and improve line of business excellence and top performance.
  • Engage with fellow EPE leaders to ensure the effective coordination of strategies, growth plans, and success.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to leverage the Company's strengths and opportunities to motivate cross-functional sales, growth, and expansion of client service offerings.
  • Participate in industry forums to support the Company's position contributing to industry best practices in grid modernization.

 

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

 

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in functions relating to electric utility engineering, operations, and planning  
  • Leadership skills demonstrated by providing strategic direction to organizations, developing staffing and training strategies, and ensuring successful client project delivery and satisfaction.  
  • Creativity, appropriate risk taking, and strong innovation focus. Strength and ability to make strategic decisions with limited information while managing multiple priorities.  
  • Knowledge of utility distribution systems, DER operations, transmission, substation functionality, and current state of industry technology best practices.  
  • Strong financial management, personnel management, communication, business negotiation and decision-making skills.  
  • Knowledge of general utility corporate models, procedures, and processes including budget preparation and tracking, safety, contract execution, procurement, and administration. 

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, or MBA
  • Professional Engineering License
